Join the East of Scotland Area Group for an Edinburgh meetup evening!

When: Thursday 26th July 6.00pm

Where: Corero Network Security, 53 Hanover Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2PJ (Door between Lakeland and Pret-a-Manger. Buzz for entry. 3rd floor in the lift.)

Schedule

  • 6.00pm: General discussion and chat. Bring an issue or a topic you want to discuss.
  • Before we go, we’ll come up with a topic for our next meetup.
  • 7.30/8ish: Pub? :)

East of Scotland Area Group Meetup- 30th January

The East of Scotland Area Group are holding an informal meetup at Edinburgh University. As well as meeting each other, we’re hoping to encourage some students to come along and find out more about our field.

When: Tuesday 30th January 5.30pm

Where: Seminar Room, Main Library building, George Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9LJ

Schedule

  • 5:30-5.40: What is Technical Writing? (Holli Hamilton) A brief overview of tech writing and the ISTC to introduce ourselves to any student visitors. Hopefully it can also provide some discussion points: so many experiences of tech writing are different!
  • 5:40-6:15: Open floor for presentations and discussions. Having trouble with a tricky topic, or found a neat new trick? Bring it to the group!
  • 6:15-6:30: Plans for the next meetup.
  • 6:30: Pub. :)

ISTC East Scotland group meeting: 11th February | Edinburgh

The next meeting of the ISTC East Scotland group will be on Thursday the 11th February at 6:30pm in the The Kenilworth on Rose Street, Edinburgh,

There will be two short talks talks (5-10 mins) each followed by a Q&A. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the talks to discuss the topic further.

Topics for this month’s talks

  • Influencing UI design
    Robin Smith (FIS™) will look at how technical authors can (and should) influence user interface design.
  • TC – QI
    Chris Burden (doc-department) looks into the origins of some Quite Interesting technical communications terms.

The event is free and open to anyone interested in technical communications to learn about the latest news and trends in communication, and to meet other communication professionals.

    Chris Burden (doc-department) will cover some key points to watch out for when using the MadCap translation path.
