Business Affiliates of the ISTC

Business Affiliates are company patrons of the Institute and the profession. There are three grades of Business Affiliate membership, these are purely indicative of the size of the company or its contribution to the ISTC. The larger the contribution, the bigger the benefits. Click here for a list of the current Business Affiliates of the ISTC.

By registering your company as a Business Affiliate of the ISTC you demonstrate to others a belief in the need for good communication and your support for its continuous improvement.

As a sponsoring company you may use the Business Affiliate logo in your publications (use of the logo does not indicate that the ISTC endorses the company or its publications - for further information see our brand policy) and enjoy the following benefits (the scale and type of benefits are at the discretion of the ISTC Council):

  • The Communicator journal
  • ISTC Newsletter
  • Being registered on the ISTC web site
  • Discounts on attendance at the annual conference and other events
  • Access to articles, reviews and salary surveys - some of which are only available to our members
  • Networking via discussion groups, area groups, etc.
  • Access to information from INTECOM (the world-wide 'umbrella' organisation for technical communication societies)
  • Access to information from TCeurope (the European 'umbrella' organisation for technical communication societies)
  • Discounts for advertising (see Communicator and Newsletter)

There are three levels of Business Affiliate. Membership is site-specific. Your company is required to provide a named point of contact through whom all communication with the ISTC will be conducted (individuals need not be named, unless they wish to partake in the ISTC discussion groups).

The ISTC provides a career path for recognition of the skills and experience of individuals, so please encourage your people to become Students, Associates, Members and Fellows and when they become Corporate members (Members and Fellows) they can influence the direction of the Institute itself.

Why should my company be a Business Affiliate rather than have one or two people who are members?

Company membership, i.e. Business Affiliate, differs from Corporate. Corporate membership is for named individuals who have been awarded the title of MISTC or FISTC. The ISTC does not know the names of people within the Business Affiliate companies and so cannot check the credentials of the people within it, thus a person is not allowed use MISTC or FISTC unless they are a Corporate member.

A company, even if it is a Business Affiliate, should encourage its people to become Corporate members (it may even pay their fees) as part of their professional development. This may act as an indicator of a company's belief in Investors in People. In addition to the many benefits to all members and recognition by letters after their names (MISTC or FISTC) Corporate members:

  • are eligible for admission to discussion groups and area groups
  • may vote at Annual General Meetings/Extraordinary General Meetings
  • may stand for Council
