From our President

Simon Butler

"The Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC) is a community of professionals dedicated to making sure that Scientific and Technical information is communicated in an appropriate way to its target audience. Scientific and technical communicators can include Technical Authors/Writers, Information Designers, Translators, Web Designers, Tech. Pubs Managers, Illustrators and many more.

It is our aim, at the ISTC, to improve public and industry awareness of what we do, to improve standards of training and education for scientific and technical communicators and to establish links with other related national and international organisations. We are run by an elected council of volunteers, all practising Technical Communicators, who give their time to provide an organisation that supports its members and the industries that we work in."

Gavin Ireland ISTC President
July 2006

The statement made by Gavin Ireland, ISTC President 2002 - 2007, remains as true today as then. In addition we are looking to raise the profile of the ISTC as organisation by establishing, maintaining and growing affiliations with other professional organisations. We are also looking to raise the professional status of our members through a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme.
